This study was to investigate the effects of the play activities on social play initiation for the children with disabilities by using the multiple baseline design across children. The subjects of the study were three children with intellectual disabilities aging eight-to ten-year old children attending special education class at the elementary school. It was to improve their verbal social play initiations and nonverbal social play initiations through the play activities. The play activities consisting of Kicking balls, bowling game, and striking target game in the study was to improve verbal social initiations of play conversation. And it was to improve nonverbal social play initiations such as preparing play materials, asking plays, and following play rules. The performance rates of verbal social play initiations and nonverbal social play initiations were collected for proving functional relationships between dependent variables and independent variables. The results of the study showed that the play activities improved verbal social play initiations as well as nonverbal social play initiations.

This study analysed journals relating to the educational use of AAC in children with cerebral palsy, which were published in Korea from 2005 to 2014, to the present research directions and suggestions for the educational use of AAC in children with cerebral palsy. A total of 22 national academic journals were selected for this analysis, and in order to analyse the general characteristics of the journals, the journals were classified according to the educational use of AAC and AAC instruments along with the subjects, methods, content and results. The results are presented as follows: it was discovered that the rate of experimental research was high, and through its application for education in diverse situations such as home and school, it had positive effects on language-communication and perception-learning in children with cerebral palsy. With respect to the application of AAC instruments for education, the types and degree of disability in children with cerebral palsy, and AAC instruments which were appropriate for the learning environment were applied in this study. Based on the results above, this study discussed directions for future research, and presented suggestions for the use of AAC for education of children with cerebral palsy.

The purpose of the study was to investigate the effectiveness of social story interventions for children with autism spectrum disorder. An extensive search process yielded a total of 15 social story intervention studies, published from January 2000 to June 2015. A summary of the results is in the following. First, the social story intervention was the most effective when research participants were elementary school students with mild autism spectrum disorder. The social story intervention that targeted social behaviors and social communication was more effective than the one that targeted problem behaviors and class skills. Second, the studies, used the social story intervention and comprehension test, were more effective than the ones, used the social story intervention with other interventions and no test. Third, the social story intervention which has less than 12 sentences and more descriptive sentences than directive ones was more effective than the one which has more than 12 sentences and more directive sentences than descriptive sentences. There were no differences between basic social story sentence ratios and complete social story sentence ratios. Finally, the results of this study provide useful suggestions for the future development and application of the social story intervention.

The purpose of this study is to review the current trends in research method, contexts, and findings of studies in music education program for children with autistic disorder. A total of 36 studies published during 1986 to 2014 are chosen based on proposed selection criteria. The review indicate as follows. First, the general characteristics in research trend by year is that the largest number of studies was conducted in 2003 and they mostly used single subject design and literature review framework. Second, the participants in most studies are preschoolers with size of less than 5 and the majority consist of male child in special education school and treatment room. Third, pre and post analysis and multiple baseline design method are mostly used in intervention method in experimental research design. Social interaction, behavior problem, and communication are modeled as dependent variables in order. Intervention is performed less than 30 times in duration of less than 30 minutes. Most research report increment of dependent variables. The concluding remark is proposed for the future study of music education intervention program and field adaptation for children with autistic disorder based on the review result.

This study is aimed at exploring the effect of the token reinforcement system on improving and maintaining behavior problems of the child with conduct behavior and inclusive class including her at elementary school. It was selected 6 grade inclusive class with 1 child with conduct behavior. It was selected ABAB design as one of single case research design. Through the results and discussions, the conclusions of this study are as follows. First, the token reinforcement system has positive effect on improving problem behaviors of the child with conduct behavior and children in inclusive class. The problem behaviors of the child with conduct behavior and children in inclusive class were decreased after intervention was started. Second, positive effect on problem behaviors of both child with conduct behavior and children in inclusive class through the token reinforcement system was maintained. Through the conclusions of this study, suggestions are as follows. First, It is suggested that we need to introduce the token reinforcement system to control problem behaviors in inclusive class including child with conduct behavior or other various problem. Second, considering maintenance of improved effect, it is suggested that it is developed a psychological mechanism to control problem behaviors such as violating rules through token reinforcement system, and that we need to examine it through following studies.

This study aims at finding out experiences of parents in recovering process of children who have been suffering from gambling addiction, one of the regressive processes of human development, by means of phenomenological study. The prevalence rate of gambling addiction in Korea is much higher than any other country of OECD, and access to gamble becomes easier, so various problems related to gambling have become social issues, especially among young people. Parents whose children have gambling problems deny it at first and try to trust their children. However parents suffer tremendous emotional distress due to continuous relapse. They become aware of seriousness of gambling addiction, seeking for treatment and participate in it together with their children. We assume that parents play an important role in the recovery whether positive or negative, so they, also as a subject of treatment, should be involved in the treatment process. It is suggested that a therapeutic relationship which gives support and cooperation for parents’ effort needs to be established, functioning a positive role in the remedy of children. And it is also important to educate parents that inadequate roles can be unhelpful for the recovery of their children from gambling problem and be sometimes an obstacle increasing dependency on parents.

Gender equality education reduces the distinction between males and females, normal and handicapped, male handicapped and female handicapped. The elementary period is the best time for gender equality education not only for normal students but also for handicapped students. The handicapped have more possibilities to copy the both gender behaviors and they expand their future job world wider through the figure of adults who have job. Therefore the illustrations represent a strong impact about the gender equality sense developed in handicapped students. The science textbooks used in our study were chosen because they deal with objective facts. The objects are science textbooks Ⅰ·Ⅱ·Ⅲ developed by 2008 reversed basic curriculum for handicapped and science textbooks 1∼2 grades ㉮/㉯, 3 ∼4 grades ㉮/㉯, 5∼6 grades ㉮/㉯ developed by 2011 reversed basic curriculum for handicapped. The tools are the selection standard for target person and analysis sheet for each person. The result, firstly, the number of appearances of both gender were similar between current books and previous books but, there were more female in current books, more male in previous books. Secondly, adult job aspects, it shows men were doing typical male jobs, women were doing typical female jobs. this trend was heavier in current books than in previous books. Thirdly, the current books have a less number of handicapped people represented than in the previous books. Collectively, the current books do consider both genders but still maintain a strong job stereotype by gender. The description of handicapped was limited and insensitive.

The purpose of this study is examining the relationship among view of teaching as a profession, teaching attitude, and teaching efficacy of university students majoring special education. For this purpose, 155 university students in Gwangju and Chungnam who majored in special education. The research questions were as follows: First, what are the characteristics of view of teaching as a profession, teaching profession attitude, and teaching efficacy? Second, what is the relationship like between view of teaching as a profession and their teaching efficacy? Third, what is the relationship like between teaching profession attitude and their teaching efficacy? Forth, what is the effect of view of teaching as a profession and teaching attitude on their teaching efficacy? The results of the study were as follows: First, view of teaching as a profession were positively correlated to their teaching efficacy. Second, teaching attitude were positively correlated to their teaching efficacy. Third, coping ability to problem situation and creativity of university students majored in special education could be predicted their teaching efficacy.
